Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: Two goals on rare outing

Villa first enquired about Wilson in January but were put off by the Cherries £7million asking price.

Their valuation of the 23-year-old will only have increased following their promotion to the Premier League, but the Daily Mirror claims Tim Sherwood remains interested in the former Coventry star and may make a firm offer if he loses Christian Benteke, who has a £32.5million release clause in his contract.

While the Midlanders remain fearful of losing their star striker, they are set to offer a new contract to Vlaar in a bid to keep him at the club this summer.

“I told Ron I thought he was good to be honest,” Sherwood said after Saturday’s FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal. “We were beaten 4-0 and I thought Jores Okore and Vlaar were very, very good.

“I’ve told him I want him to stay so we’re going to have a chat with him as well.”

Asked if Vlaar will be offered a new deal, Sherwood added: “Yeah.”
