Villa held, win for Norwich

In the final game of Tim Sherwood’s side’s training camp in Portugal, Villa looked the most likely to break the deadlock with Gabriel Agbonlahor firing 25-yard shot against the crossbar in the 28th minute.

Sherwood rung the changes at half-time but there was no place for Liverpool target Christian Benteke in the side as his move to Anfield edges closer.

Villa continued to push for a winner deep into the second half and the closest they came was when Charles N’Zogbia hit the post from distance with just 12 minutes remaining.

New signing Mark Bunn was called on at the other end in the dying stages to keep the scores level, tipping over a powerful 30-yard effort.

Elsewhere, Premier League new boys Norwich City ran out 3-1 winners in their 120-minute friendly against Cambridge United.

In a game that was split into four quarters, Cambridge opened the scoring just after the 30-minute mark through Barry Corr.

Gary Hooper levelled the scores from the penalty spot just before the half-time interval and Norwich took the lead just two minutes after the break through Ricky van Wolfswinkel.

Harry Toffolo added a third for the Premier League side in the 95th minute to round off the victory and make it three wins from three so far for Alex Neil’s side in pre-season.
