Theo Walcott dedicated Arsenal’s win over Manchester United to Arsene Wenger and says the 3-0 win proves they are serious title contenders.
Wenger had come under fire in the wake of the midweek Champions League defeat to Olympiacos, with our article questioning whether the Frenchman had taken the Gunners as far as he could.
But Arsenal responded with their best display of the season as Manchester United were torn to shreds.
And Walcott believes the win gives them the belief they can claim glory this season.
“After the Olympiacos disappointment we started this game completely differently,” Walcott told Sky Sports.
“We caught them on the break, we maybe eased off in the second half but the clean sheet was crucial for the whole team today.
“This game will send out a message to the Premier League that we are ready to have a go this season.”
Walcott added: “I think we wanted it more.
“You could sense from kick off that the desire was there. We need that in every game. We should be playing like that every week.
“That first half we were unbelievable, no one could have dealt with us. It was the best football I have been involved in.”
He went on: “That was all for the manager without a doubt. The players spoke to each other on our own and we wanted to do this for the fans.
“It was the Arsenal of old, everything seemed to click.”
