The 25-year-old has agreed a stay until August in an effort to prove his fitness to Jags boss Alan Archibald.

Welsh moved to Glasgow in the summer of 2012 after a successful loan spell from Hibernian.

He played a large part in helping Partick return to Scotland’s top-flight but, after being made captain for the 2013/14 season, suffered a terrible run of injury problems.

Welsh had to abort attempted returns to the Jags’ first team in November 2014 and January this year, appearing only three times as Thistle retained Premiership status for another season.
