Arsene Wenger has confirmed to reporters that Arsenal are “working on deals” and expects them to be completed early next week.
Widespread reports emerged on Thursday that the Gunners were in the advanced stages of negotiations for Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi and Deportivo de la Coruna striker Lucas Perez in a £52million double deal which would take Arsenal’s spending this summer to over £100million.
Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Watford, Wenger said when asked about the La Liga pair: “”We are working on the deals. Will we sign anyone before the window closes? I’m 99 per cent confident.”
“We are not close to announcing them to you today!”
Wenger also confirmed that Callum Chambers will be loaned out once the arrivals have been confirmed, but insisted that the former Saints defender still has a future with Arsenal.
He added: “The fact that he could go out on loan somewhere and play, yes.”
The Frenchman later admitted that he was expecting a straightforward transfer window this summer and predicted a busy few days before the market closes.
“It was a strange transfer market, I expected it to be easier than ever, it has been more difficult than ever,” he said.
“It looks like it will be frenetic in the last three days, everyone has sat on their money but we know they will all splash out now.”
