‘Special talent Martial would flourish if he left Man Utd’

Anthony Martial: Big-money buy

Anthony Martial: Big-money buy

Liverpool’s entire strategy under Jurgen Klopp will depend on a top-four finish this season, according to one reader, while Tottenham’s title chances, Leeds’ promotion hopes and Anthony Martial’s future at Manchester United is also debated.

Everything at Liverpool hinges on a top-four finish

I don’t like to look at the losses as showing that a trend is continuing because as far as Klopp is concerned this is new. We are tactically quite different to Rafa’s teams that gifted silly points and different again to the one of Rodgers that capitulated in a more familiar fashion to now, at least on the outside.

There are aspects of it that Klopp can’t control though and that is the atmosphere, which always sucks when we bring the smaller teams to Anfield. Maybe we’re a sing when you’re winning club. That’s going to sound harsh but it is one of the few constants involved. Maybe Klopp did spot this and that’s why he was calling on the fans for a big atmosphere but how many times can he turns and wave his arms at the fans before they start thinkin who this guy thinks he is?

Our away fans are generally brilliant so maybe it’s not that as we’ve pissed away easy points home and away, so what else could it be? Could it be that parking the bus is becoming more of a refined and plausible tactic against even the best sides who like to play the ball on the ground?

I just don’t know but I don’t remember being outplayed yet this season where a team has come to play at what we might consider to be a high quality of football.

Maybe it’s some of the above plus a poor mentality from the players in certain matches, with some defensive changes (some forced, some not). Either way it’s not a pretty picture, people say this was inevitable etc etc. . wrong. This was a tragedy, we’ve utterly messed up the best opportunity that we’ve had to win the title since I’ve been a proper fan.

Pretty ungrateful stuff perhaps, as I’m writing this in the LC semi thread but I really am struggling to give a hoot about this match. Maybe it’s exactly what I need but as you can tell, I’m already dissecting our season. I would like to think that I did that to every single match, good and bad anyway. I’m really uncomfortable with the few fingers that are seemingly aligning towards Klopp, I’m not talking about those who had a problem with his selection the last day (some valid points there) but more the blame game ones. Klopp is why we were the leagues top scorer for almost all of the season so far. You could argue that he’s responsible for the bite-sized squad but I really do think that we were ahead of schedule. I have banged on about how I thought this was to be a streamlined season financially and I don’t think our surprise league position has shifted anything in terms of where FSG are in this.

Do I think that’s a mistake? Maybe it wasn’t possible for them to shift things around too much, maybe they think that because we’re doing well under Klopp this season that it will carry on next season. . I’m under no such illusions. We have to do whatever we can now and I guess that includes trying to win this cup. We also must get out of this slump and qualify for the Champions League or we may struggle in the summer, missing out of some targets and possibly losing a player or 2.

Joel Matip and Jurgen Klopp: Receive FIFA update

Winning this cup won’t keep anyone in my view but we could use a win, Klopp certainly could. We have to dig deep and come back from a goal down in this tie in order to settle some unfinished business with Utd.

I know that quite a few of you rate Klavan but for me it’s vital that Matip is able to replace him if we’re to achieve anything. Our defense in general has been poor lately so I’m not soley blaming him but this is where we start if we want to shore things up. For sure.

I guess I may catch some slack for this pretty wayward post with some genuinely negative elements but so be it.

Are Martial’s days at Man Utd numbered?

Anthony Martial’s days at the club seem to be numbered under Jose. It’ll be a shame if Jose can’t or doesn’t get the best out of Martial and he has to leave the club.

MMI

Martial is a special talent, and hopefully by letting Memphis go, Jose can focus on getting the best out of Martial, the way he can ghost pass players is a joy to watch, and has reminisces of a young Giggs.

At 22 he can get better, and I would hate to see him grow into a better player somewhere else. I hope Kevin de bruyne plays on Jose’s mind with his decision making on Martial. A good run of form and him scoring goals would help sort the issue out I’m sure.

Arsenal’s only chance of geting rid of Wenger is to finish out of the top four

Arsene Wenger: Past his best?

So you got 2 options and would be nice to hear why you’d choose whatever option you do.

1. We win the league, reach quarters or CL and semis of FA cup, but Wenger signs not for 2 years but 3 years more.
2. We win nothing, finish 5th but wenger leaves and one of sampaoli, simeone, allegri or tuchul takes over for next season and Sanchez signs on for another 3 years.

As much as I’d like us to win the league and I don’t think there will be many that agree I would opt for option 2. Wenger going for me is the only way I see us improving long term. We win the league and you can bet your bollocks that we will return back to being 4th place also rans for another 3 years after. His time is deffo up and we 100% need some fresh input.

The Hulk

If we win the league it would be far more likely Sanchez signs, I would be very surprised if he stayed if we were not in the champions league. Surely anyone would rather we win the league than finish 5th.

As the saying goes, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I’d take a title this season, even if it meant Wenger re-signing.

I want Wenger gone because I’m sick of the same-old, but there isn’t a manager in the world who can guarantee us a title, so to sacrifice one this season for only the possibility of one in the next two or three would be mental.

Sounds like it’s going to be signed and sealed long before May anyway, so win the title or come fifth, we’re still stuck with him next season.

Let’s put talk of Courtois leaving to bed

More than happy to read the latest interview with Courtois. It seems that he is very happy with the style that Conte wants to play and with the new goal keeping coach which caused him issues previously

The interview does not appear on the official website so for me is therefore still open to a degree of interpretation but overall it would appear to be a very positive interview and he even speaks of the nice gesture by Real but does not mention anything else in terms of transfers apart from ruling out a move to China

Based on this and assuming it is true, then I do not see him leaving this Summer

I would also think if it is true and that more of the squad feel the same, which is what you could easily imply from the performances on the pitch, then I would not be surprised to see the Club try and negotiate new contracts for a number of players, especially considering it looks likely we/they will have CL football next season as well. Thibaut Courtois: Could be sold by Chelsea

Perhaps the key to this is Begovic himself and his desire to play regular first team football.

When he came to Chelsea it was to challenge himself and to try and seize the No 1 spot from Courtois unfortunately for him he hasn’t been able to do that and I’m sure he will feel that he’s potentially losing his edge in being the No 2 keeper permanently on the bench and only ever playing if Courtois is injured of in a domestic Cup game or two.

Whilst I think we should be prepared to let him go in consideration of the above I think it would be better to wait until the summer.

The No 2 position for a Goalkeeper is always a very difficult position to fill and keep the player who is filling it happy.

Can Spurs close the gap on Chelsea?

Harry Kane: Celebrates his opener for Tottenham

Tottenham’s next 3 games are all winnable. Sunderland away then Boro and Stoke at home, before an away trip to Anfield, which will be a cracker…

A win is absolute essential for Leeds’ confidence

Greetings Fellow Faithful

The Barnsley game has come and gone – water under the bridge – although there’s still the lingering pain!. Notwithstanding, we need to put the memory of Saturday well and truly behind us and focus firmly on the task that awaits us on Wednesday evening. Needless to say, we need to be cognizant of our deficiencies.

In all the games which we have lost this season (and, indeed, last year) I have observed that the opposition midfielders have run us ragged with a quick, crisp passing sequence across the field. They sustained their high-tempo onslaught throughout those games and were able, as result, to beat us convincingly. Saturday against Barnsley was no different.

Trusting that Monk and his coaching staff will get back to the old drawing board and stretch out the areas of concern. A win is absolutely essential: there’s no two ways about it. Any points lost is going to jeopardize our top-six position as the others are waiting like hungry lions to pounce and displace us. The last thing we want is to start slip-sliding away, a la Paul Simon style!

Not sure, at this stage, of any selection challenges which may be facing Monk and co. We shall keep our ears to the ground in this regard. Hoping, fervently, for a comfortable win and an impressive performance to recharge and re-energize the batteries and, of course, restore the feel-good factor!

We shall chat again, soon. Best wishes.

Am exited about the Forest game, we got Jansson back, we play at home and hopefully Sacko in back also, would our starting 11 to be Green, Ayling, Jansson, Bartley and Berardi in the defence. Sacko, Hernandez, O´Kane, Bridcutt and Roofe in midfield and Doukara and Wood up front, maby Vieira instead of Roofe. Think it will be 3 or 4-1 to leeds, Wood 2 goals, Jansson 1 goal and Hernandez 1 goal ???? and Bendtner will score a goal against us where Green is to blame because he should have got it. Will put a bet on Leeds to win with more than 1 goal.

Klopp to field strongest Liverpool XI

I am expecting Jurgen to field a very strong side Wednesday with Matip returning at the expense of Klavan and also Sturridge back in for Can (Lallana back in central mid and Danny up front with Firmino and Coutinho).

Southampton played well today (although Leicester are pants away), passed and switched the ball efficiently and showed lots of enthusiasm and eagerness. It’ll be a tough game but Van Dijk came off with an ankle injury today so his potential absence Wednesday will be a big plus but we have to play so much better than we have been doing lately to still get a result.

But, I do fancy us to take the tie and meet United in the final.

Rob Fort Worth TX

Gotta be wary of the away goal, although that would only set in if the scores were level and the game went into extra time. We have to keep a clean sheet, and be patient in how we account for ourselves. We’re only a deficit to one goal so all to play for and hopefully, the guys can turn it around to book us a place at Wembley.

SensibleS7

Matip will be massive for us in this game, I just hope we can find some spark. We appear very flat & dare I say it worn out lately & need a spark from somewhere. Maybe some of our talented youth with their enthusiasm could get the juices flowing again.

Number8wasgreat

Southampton will set up like Swansea, Plymouth etc did. They did it in the 1st leg and it worked a treat. They will sit back and wait for the inevitable mistake to come. Cant see us getting through here as we are playing so bad at the minute

mikus, i would be very concerned by the games we lost and it shows the trend is still continuing of us losing to the so called lower level teams. Its going on years.Look who spurs and chelsea have lost to. Chelsea are were they are because they beat the lower and mid tabled clubs all the time. We dont and its a problem that stems back 20 years.
