Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said the club continue to remain ‘in touch’ with star duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez over new deals.
New contracts for the pair have been on the agenda ever since the summer, but Wenger appeared confident that talks were heading in the right direction and that Ozil in particular was at the right club to cement a lasting legacy.
“We are in touch and that is our desire,” said Wenger in his pre-match conference ahead of the visit of Middlesbrough.
“Ozil is 28 and is in the prime of his career. We want him to contribute to the club’s future.
“I believe he is in the right place.”
Wenger went on to reveal what is the secret behind their success so far this season.
“I gave Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez extra time to recover over the summer, and I believe that was the right decision,” Wenger stated.
The Frenchman was also asked about the competition Arsenal face from other clubs this season and offered a dramatic analogy in response.
“We live in a jungle where everyone wants to eat you and you have to keep your vigilance,” he added.
“That’s what competition is all about.”
