Arsene Wenger: Responds to Ox rumours

Arsene Wenger wants Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to stay at Arsenal beyond the end of his current contract, which runs out in 18 months.

The Daily Mirror had initially claimed that the England international had not opened talks with the club about a new deal, despite the Frenchman saying he was one of “five or six” that the Gunners were in contact with.

Wenger was asked to provide an update on Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future and suggested that it would be a shame for another club to profit on the time and investment he has made in the former Saints winger.

“I bought him at a young age,” Wenger told reporters at his latest press conference.

“I think he is developing well.

“This season he is making steps and moving forward and overall when you have invested so much time and work and the player has as well and he’s integrated into the team. I want him to stay.”

Wenger also revealed that centre-back Shkodran Mustafi is ruled out for three weeks with a hamstring injury sustained in the 3-1 victory against Stoke at the weekend.
