Wenger reveals his thoughts on Wilshere’s Arsenal future

Arsene Wenger believes that Jack Wilshere will remain at Arsenal next season despite ongoing speculation that he could be set to leave the club.

The 25-year-old spent the 2016-17 season on loan at fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, making 27 appearances in the Premier League and contributing two assists.

There is little indication that the Cherries will move to sign Wilshere on a permanent basis with Asmir Begovic, Jermain Defoe and Nathan Ake all joining already this summer.

Wilshere has been linked over the last week with a move to Serie A side Sampdoria with Sky Italy claiming the Gunners are willing to let him go for £9million.

However, Wenger – who signed a new two-year deal at the end of last season – reckons the England international will remain at the Emirates Stadium.

“I think Jack will be with Arsenal next season, yes,” Wenger said.

“I will give you a very focused answer on that, that he has to work hard to come back and fight for a place in the team.

“But once he is ready, when he comes back, he will not be far from practising with the team.”
