Wenger reveals reasons for Kolasinac’s Arsenal benching

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has explained why he has dropped Sead Kolasinac for the last three Premier League outings.

The Bosnian has not featured in the league since the 1-1 draw with Southampton earlier this month, with the Wenger opting to revert to a back four.

Wenger says that the tactical change, coupled with Kolasinac’s lack of a winter break that he enjoyed during his time in the Bundesliga, has contributed to the decision.

“He is highly suited for a wing-back role, for a more offensive role,” said the Gunners chief.

“I think he will play again and I gave him a breather as well. He is working hard and I think he will play in a back four, as well.”

Kolasinac himself added: “It’s fine up to now. My old team-mates at Schalke played their last game of the year on the day we beat West Ham in the cup, so they are on holiday now.

“December is a tough month – there are a lot of games one after the other – but my body can deal with that. I’m still young and I can cope.”
