Wenger takes subtle swipe at Arsenal’s new head of recruitment

Arsene Wenger has taken a dig at Arsenal’s new transfer guru after Konstantinos Mavropanos signed for the north London side.

Mavropanos, who joined the Gunners from PAS Giannina, will be loaned straight out to a Bundesliga side, with Werder Bremen reported to be in advanced talks.

And Wenger has revealed that new head of recuitment, Sven Mislentat, was responsible for bringing the 20-year-old Greek centre-back to the Emirates Stadium but reckons the new appointment will struggle to improve Arsenal’s scouting range and knowledge.

When asked if Mavropanos was identified as a target by Mislintat, Wenger said: “Yes.

“We talk. We know the players. We know. It’s not that we discover, we know every single player in Europe before Sven arrived.

“Sometimes, in a little club in Germany, he might know somebody we might ignore.”
