West Brom are set to make defender Jonny Evans the top earner at The Hawthorns after turning down the advances of Arsenal.
The club want the Northern Ireland star to commit his long-term future to the club after they told the Gunners the 28-year-old was not for sale in the summer.
Arsene Wenger enquired about Evans’ availability before eventually signing Shkodran Mustafi in a £35million deal from Valencia.
Now Albion want to offer the centre-back a new £75,000 a week contract and negotiations will start this month, according to The Telegraph.
That will elevate Evans into the top pay bracket alongside the likes of £13million record signing Nacer Chadli, Salomon Rondon and James Morrison.
Evans, who was signed for £6million from Manchester United in August 2015, has developed into a key player at the club and has made 179 Premier League appearances.
Evans impressed for Northern Ireland at Euro 2016 and caught the attention of Wenger and serveral other potential suitors, but Albion are desperate to keep hold of the player, who has just under three years remaining on his current deal.
