Wigan receive Gers enquiries

It is understood that the Ibrox side have enquired about the availability of right-back James Tavernier and striker Martyn Waghorn.

New Gers boss Mark Warburton is looking to reinforce his squad after 11 first-team players left the club at the end of last season.

The two clubs have already conducted business this summer, with centre-half Rob Kiernan leaving the Latics to join Warburton at Rangers.

Tavernier, 23, joined Wigan from Newcastle United after a series of loan spells throughout the Football League. He spent the last six months of the last campaign on loan at Bristol City after joining them in January.

Waghorn, 25, joined Wigan from Leicester City after a successful loan spell in 2014.

Rangers assistant boss Davie Weir has recently admitted that the lack of a scouting network has hindered the club’s recruitment drive as they prepare for another charge in the Scottish Championship.
