Manchester United will continue to back Louis van Gaal with more cash despite allowing him to spend £250million so far, claims Ed Woodward.
United have splashed out big money on players since the Dutchman’s arrival at Old Trafford, with the likes of Anthony Martial, Ander Herrera, Morgan Schneirderlin and Memphis Depay all arriving for big money, while Angel Di Maria also signed for a British record fee of £59.7million, before being sold for a £15million loss 12 months later.
And the executive vice chairman has revealed there are no plans to tighten the purse strings, insisting the big spending would continue to go on.
He told United’s official Fans’ Forum that the club would ‘continue to look to strengthen the squad and to reward young talent’.
Woodward cited the elevation to the first-team squad of Brazilian teenager Andreas Pereira and the new contract for James Wilson as evidence of this.
And he added he was ‘delighted’ with the return of Champions League football with the club’s revenues expected to exceed £500m next year.
