Northampton have signed Brett Williams on loan from Reading after Saido Berahino declined a move back to the League Two club.

Williams joins the club for a month's loan from Reading after Berahino's loan spell ended and he returned to West Brom.

The 24-year-old joined Reading from non-League Eastleigh last summer and has been a regular in the Royals' reserve-team. He had a loan spell at Rotherham this season and scored twice in four starts and seven substitute appearances.

"I'm delighted to have signed Brett and I'm hoping that he is going to come in and improve the team," said Town boss Aidy Boothroyd. "He is here for a month initially so we will see how things work out but I'd like to thank Reading and (Royals manager) Brian McDermott for giving us this opportunity.

"Brett will bring power, pace, strength and height to the team and I'm hoping that he will also bring goals. He's got a phenomenal record at non-League level and he scored two in four for Rotherham in a loan spell earlier this season.

"I want us to be a team that has a number of ways of scoring a goal and Brett certainly provides us with another option."
