Notts County boss Martin Allen insists defender Mike Edwards will not be leaving the League One club this month.

Edwards' future has been the subject of speculation over the past couple of months because, after starting the first 21 games of the season, he has featured in only three of the last nine matches.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign but Allen insists he remains part of his plans.

"He's not going anywhere," Allen told the Nottingham Post. "We've got injuries at the moment and everyone is involved, so no. We said at the start of the season it's going to be a squad effort.

"Mike has made a lot of starts in the first team this season but we're always looking to improve the 11 and evolving is part of life. Of course he will play a part - Mike is a good player and a diamond professional and I love him around the place, he's done great."

Edwards is the longest-serving player currently at Meadow Lane having joined Notts in 2004.
