Murray double downs Crewe
Gary Liddle made the most of some slack home defending to provide County with a 10th-minute opener. Jamal Campbell-Ryce’s measured cross was headed into the far corner at close range by the unmarked midfielder.
On-loan Huddersfield striker James Spencer went close to extending the lead with a long-range effort on the half-hour mark, picking up a Murray lay-off and unleashing just past the post from 25 yards.
Crewe showed greater urgency after the restart with Uche Ikpeazu looping a header onto the roof of the net. But they would have fallen further behind had teenage keeper Ben Garratt not got off his line smartly to deny Campbell-Ryce after the winger had burst clear.
Bartosz Bialkowski preserved the lead with a fine tip over to keep Abdul Osman’s 30-yard screamer.
But Murray completed a vital win for County with two goals inside 10 minutes in the closing stages.
He latched onto more good work from Campbell-Ryce and cut in from the right to drive a low left-footed finish into the far corner, before breaking clear to shoot under Garratt four minutes from time.
Mark Ellis reduced the arrears with a deflected consolation effort in stoppage time.
