Paul Dickov hailed Jose Baxter after the former Everton frontman helped fire the Latics into the FA Cup second round.
Baxter - with an opportunist free kick - and Cristian Montano were on the scoresheet as the League One side saw off the Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers Kidderminster
Latics boss Dickov said: "Funnily enough when Jose (Baxter) put the ball down for the free kick, as I've seen their goalkeeper edge to one side, I've said to the bench 'that little so-and-so is going to shoot from here' - and that's what he did.
"He's got that in his locker - his footballing brain is a step ahead of a lot of people sometimes. He's a fantastic talent.
"We knew it was going to be a tough game so it's really pleasing that, one, we got through to the next round, which was the most important thing and, two, it was a really professional performance."
