Oxford v Fleetwood preview

Oxford will be without Alfie Potter when they host Fleetwood.

The winger limped out of the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s loss at Dagenham with a groin strain that looks set to sideline him for a fortnight, leaving boss Gary Waddock without one of his key players for the clash with the Cod Army.

But he will be able to select Tom Newey for the first time. The left-back has missed Waddock’s first three matches in charge following his red card at Chesterfield and Waddock confirmed he will return to the squad.

The U’s currently occupy the final League Two play-off place despite having lost their last two matches without scoring.

Fleetwood boss Graham Alexander could welcome Adam Barton into the squad for Saturday’s trip to Oxford.

Midfielder Barton signed for the Cod Army on loan deadline day from Coventry and has just completed a full week’s training.

Steven Schumacher, who scored a free-kick in the reverse fixture last November, has recovered from a bruised foot and is pushing for a recall.

Jeff Hughes and Blackpool loanee Bobby Grant, however, remain long-term absentees.
