Regional Paper Talk: Reds stadium boost

Liverpool's Anfield expansion hopes are improving, Stoke can't field Geoff Cameron at Reading and Sheffield Wednesday want Jay Bothroyd.

  • Plans to demolish a row of derelict houses next to Liverpool's Anfield stadium and build a new hotel appear to have made it easier for the Reds to expand their current home.
The Chronicle
  • Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is likely to leave players at home for the Magpies' first Europa League game in Greece next week.
South Wales Evening Post
  • Swansea City have been hit by an eve-of-season bombshell after Scott Sinclair told the club he will not sign a new contract. Sinclair is now expected to join Manchester City before the end of the month, although Swansea say there are a number of clubs interested in his signature.
Reading Post
  • Brian McDermott believes Stoke City's Premier League blueprint is the one to follow. The Reading manager is an admirer of the way Tony Pulis' side have built year-on-year to sustain their top-flight status since winning promotion in 2007/08.

  • Stoke City have been dealt an eve-of-season blow after new boy Geoff Cameron was ordered to fly to America instead of lining up for his debut at Reading on Saturday. Cameron had an outside chance of starting at Reading - despite being in Mexico this week for a friendly with the United States. But now boss Tony Pulis has revealed that his 27-year-old new signing had to divert from Mexico to America after the game to complete some formalities for his visa application.

  • Sheffield Wednesday are understood to have been eyeing QPR striker Jay Bothroyd as a possible loan signing. But the Owls may not be able to prise him out of a Premier League environment and other options are being considered as well. Welsh midfielder Jason Koumas has begun training with the club, but this does not mean he is going to be signed.

  • Victor Wanyama is embroiled in a club versus country tug-of-war - which Celtic have no intention of losing.
