Plymouth Argyle boss Carl Fletcher felt errors proved to be the undoing of his side in the opening 2-0 home defeat to Aldershot.
Troy Brown headed the Shots into a fifth-minute lead from Anthony Tonkin's free-kick before Josh Payne's second-half penalty made the points safe in Saturday's League Two clash at Home Park.
"It was obviously not the start we wanted but goals change games and a couple of mistakes have cost us," said Fletcher.
"When you play League Two football, it's important you don't give away free kicks because it's a chance for teams to put the ball into your penalty area.
"I was disappointed with the way we dealt with that and the way we defended it.
"Overall the lads worked really hard, we had plenty of chances and there was some good play but we just could not get the ball into the net against a very strong, resilient Aldershot team."
