Port Vale boss Micky Adams was pleased with his players' efforts even though they slumped to a loss against AFC Wimbledon.
Substitute Luke Moore netted the decisive goal for the Dons after Jack Midson cancelled out Marc Richards' opener for Vale before half-time.
Vale supporters staged an angry demonstration afterwards as they attempt to oust the current board, who broke a promise to hand Adams funds for new players this month.
"The situation isn't a bed of roses but we've got to get on with it," Adams said. "I can't fault any of the players for their effort and we were unlucky to get nothing.
"We started the game really well and perhaps should have scored a couple of more goals before they equalised. Their goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of our players but we picked them up again at half-time and it was one-way traffic at the start of the second half.
"We just needed something to drop for us and maybe we lacked that bit of creativity to provide the killer ball."
