Micky Adams has praised injured striker Tom Pope, who came off the bench to score a late winner in Port Vale's 1-0 win over Plymouth.
Relegation battlers Plymouth looked like hanging on for a hard-earned point until Pope, who is struggling with a groin strain, struck his first goal in 16 games.
Vale's second successive win lifted them back into play-off contention and Adams said: "It was a terrific finish and I'm very pleased for Tom.
"He didn't train all week, but we are down to the bare bones and I put him on the bench in the hope we could get 20 minutes out of him if needs be.
"I thought his presence up there might open something up for us and he's delivered the goods. All strikers are judged on the goals they score and I'm sure Tom is very happy."
