Preston have completed the signing of Tranmere captain John Welsh on a two-year contract.

The 28-year-old midfielder was out of contract at Prenton Park and will officially join North End on July 1.

Welsh played 130 games for Tranmere, including 49 this season, and scored 11 times.

Lilywhites chairman Peter Ridsdale has suggested Welsh may be the first of a number of new signings to be tied up this week.
