The Blades fought back from two down to clinch a point against play-off chasing Stevenage, but it was not enough to lift them back into second place in the table and they trail Sheffield Wednesday by a point with one game to go.
"Looking at ourselves we have to say that we gave away two soft goals, but then came back very well," Wilson said.
"The players must take a lot of credit for creating the finish they did, they will be frustrated because they couldn't force a third goal, but they must take great credit for coming so close."
Wilson also had praise for Gary Smith's side, adding: "On the counter attack they were very strong, caught us a few times, we have to have a bit of humility and say that they played very well."
The Blades must win at relegated Exeter on the final day and hope Wycombe, whose drop to League Two was also confirmed at the weekend, can take at least a point off Wednesday.
