Stanley's striker-turned-right-back praised the performances of some of the club's younger players, who are playing for their futures.
"I don't think it was ever a 4-1 game," Lindfield said.
"The gaffer has made five or six changes and it's hard to gel quickly. The lads are all trying to impress and they were nervous, trying to win a contract.
"They have done well and the scoreline doesn't reflect the game overall. They are all learning, young lads, on loan and Cheltenham are a good team. They are big, strong and physical but we played some good football in patches. The third goal was a big blow.
"There is good character in the dressing room and we didn't give up, creating some good chances, but it's a heavy defeat."
