A 2-0 defeat to Burton sealed Macc's relegation from League Two and, with tensions running high, safety officers advised Rance to leave the Moss Ross immediately after the game.
"There was a lot of negative feeling at the end of the game," he told the Manchester Evening News. "The stewards were well prepared and as far as I'm aware it was a fairly noisy expression of their views, some people express themselves in that way.
"From my perspective I am a fan of this club and I understand their frustrations, this is something that none of us wanted.
"When you're chairman of a football club like ours relegation is a spectre that is always there, but the reality of it is that none of us saw it coming when we'd beaten Port Vale and were preparing to take on Bolton in the FA Cup.
"But we've had some major contributing factors, not least an incredible amount of injuries, but we have to accept what's happened and get on with it now."
