Waddock won't blame Basey

Saturday 14-April-2012 20:15

Basey missed a spot-kick at 2-1 six minutes from time, only for Robbie Simpson to bag one of his own and earn Oldham a 2-2 draw after he was felled by Marvin McCoy in the 90th minute. Prior to the late penalty drama Wycombe goals from Joel Grant and Stuart Beavon looked to have bagged them all three points after Filipe Morais' opener for Oldham.

That setback leaves Wycombe three points off safety with three games remaining and Waddock said: "We've made it harder for ourselves to stay up by not winning.

"There are defining moments in games and seasons, but no fingers should be pointed at Grant Basey because he did the same thing at Stevenage, and he stepped up. He's devastated.

"If we had gone and got the three points that we were looking for, the picture would have looked a lot different. But we've got three games left, and if teams in and around us lose and we win one, we pop ahead of them.

"It could have been a lot better but you have to look at positives. We're a point closer to everybody else, and it's very hard at the moment to look at it that way, but that's what it is. That group of players in that dressing room are devastated at the moment."
