Evans slams ref's penalty call

Sunday 01-April-2012 09:17

East brushed aside the Reds' appeals for a spot-kick at the Pirelli Stadium after the ball hit the hand of home skipper Nathan Stanton in the 77th minute.

"It was a penalty - everyone in the ground knows it was a penalty. Even the Martians sitting having their tea in the sky knew it was a penalty," said Evans.

"The referee said it hit his hand but didn't consider it to be deliberate. It was a very poor decision by the match official.

"I thought we might also have had a penalty for a push on John Dempster in the first half but the referee said it was a coming together."

The Scot was left frustrated as his side failed to register their fifth successive victory, though the point was enough to keep them in an automatic promotion spot.

"We had enough possession and got ourselves in enough good areas to make some chances to score some goals. We go away disappointed with a point because we've absolutely torn them apart from start to finish," Evans added.

"The performance was good - we just lacked that killer instinct. On another day we'd have gone away with three points and a victory but it just didn't fall for us."
