PETR CECH: Performed his duties without fuss and made an excellent second-half save to stop a Jardel header sneaking in. 7
PAULO FERREIRA: Looked decent against his countrymen in what was his first start of 2012. 6
ASHLEY COLE: Chelsea's Mr Reliable did not enjoy his best game, but managed to keep the hosts quiet down the left flank. 6
JOHN TERRY: Did well to keep Benfica at bay, especially in the second half as the home side pressed intensely. 7
DAVID LUIZ: The Brazil international put in an assured performance against his former club, who failed to find a way past the central defender. 8
RAMIRES: Another Chelsea player to put in a shift against his former employers, although his contribution was not quite as impressive. 6
RAUL MEIRELES: Despite picking up a booking after 18 minutes and being hounded for the remainder of the game, managed a strong performance in central midfield. 7
JOHN OBI MIKEL: Back in the side to bolster the Blues' midfield and was sturdy if anonymous. 6
SALOMON KALOU: Despite having a quiet game, he prodded home the winning goal in Lisbon and one that could prove vital to Chelsea's hopes of progressing to the semi-finals. 7
JUAN MATA: Was often outmuscled by the hosts but looked a real live wire in possession. Was unfortunate to see a second-half effort come back off the post. 7
FERNANDO TORRES: Another goalless performance from the Spain international but worked tirelessly for his team and did well to provide the assist for Kalou's goal. 7
SUBSTITUTES:
FRANK LAMPARD: The midfielder put in a sturdy if not spectacular performance after his 68th-minute introduction. 6
JOSE BOSINGWA: Replaced Paulo Ferreira at right-back in the 80th minute and helped keep it tight in the closing stages. 6
DANIEL STURRIDGE: Looked dangerous in the little time he had after replacing Ramires in the 82nd minute. 6
