Torquay are looking to re-sign Reading defender Angus MacDonald on loan for the start of next season.

The 19-year-old spent the final three months of this term at Plainmoor but was used mostly as central defensive cover, making just three appearances including only one start.

But manager Martin Ling has already been in touch with Reading, who will compete in the Premier League next season, to register his interest in taking MacDonald back on loan.

"Angus is obviously not my player and he has a year left on his contract at Reading," Ling told the club's official website. "We can't take him for a year because Reading will want to look at him in the second half of the season, but I've spoken to Angus to express my interest in him coming back here.

"We will see what he has got to say and gauge his interest. The next question will go to Reading and they will naturally ask whether Angus will start enough games.

"If it was me, I would rather him playing as a sub for a League Two side than toiling away in the Conference, like he did with Farnborough. It is down to Reading and Angus, and whether he is going to be part of our centre-half unit."
