Steven Fletcher: Expected to be missing due to his ankle injury

Steven Fletcher: Expected to be missing due to his ankle injury

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is likely to be without striker Steven Fletcher once again for Tuesday night's vital Premier League clash with Reading.

The Scotland international missed Saturday's 3-1 defeat by Chelsea with an ankle problem and, although he is making progress, the game is expected to come too soon for him.

Defender John O'Shea managed to play the full 90 minutes at the weekend on his return from a calf problem and did not suffer a reaction, but skipper Lee Cattermole (knee ligaments) is out for up to two months.

Sean Morrison is set to be absent for Reading after sustaining an ankle injury at the weekend.

The defender left St Mary's on crutches after the 1-0 defeat to Southampton and has only a slight chance of playing, while striker Pavel Pogrebnyak will miss out with a knock.

Alex McCarthy (shoulder), Jimmy Kebe (groin) and Jem Karacan (knee) are all out, although the latter has started light training. Chris Gunter (hamstring) is another expected to be sidelined.
