Accrington have not given up hope of retaining the services of manager John Coleman, who looks set to sign a deal with Rochdale.
On Monday morning League One strugglers Rochdale revealed they had received permission from Stanley to speak to Coleman with a view to him filling the managerial vacancy at Spotland.
However, Reds chief executive Rob Heys insists no deal has been agreed and suggested Coleman - the third-longest serving manager in English football after 13 years at the Crown Ground - could set his sights higher than becoming Steve Eyre's successor.
"It needs sorting out quickly but we've not thrown in the towel and accepted he's going to leave," Heys told the Lancashire Telegraph.
"Without being disrespectful to Rochdale, I don't think it's a massive step for him, although obviously they are a bigger club than us. I don't think it's the job that he deserves.
"But we decided that it was fair to John to give him permission to talk to them."
