John Coleman believes he is close to securing his first signing as Rochdale manager.

Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell were confirmed as the new men in charge at Spotland earlier this week, sending the rumour mill into immediate action.

Burnley youngsters Kevin Long and Alex MacDonald have been linked with moves to the League One strugglers, the former having played under Coleman during extended loan spells with Accrington.

Although he would not confirm the identity of the player in question, Coleman stated he is closing in on an addition to a first-team squad that has already seen the arrival of three loan signings and centre-back Kevin Amankwaah this month.

"Yes there is room for manoeuvre and yes we are looking to bring in," he said.

"We've identified one that we hope will be finalised this week and then we'll move on and look at the ones that we think can improve our side and we'll go from there."
