Rochdale v York preview

Rochdale midfielder Peter Cavanagh is hoping to return to the starting line-up in the home game against York.

Cavanagh was on the bench last week after a calf problem and came through unscathed after playing the final 26 minutes of the goalless draw at Fleetwood. Defender Ashley Eastham was an unused substitute following his return from injury.

Boss Keith Hill could also include defender Sean McGinty in the squad following his recent arrival on loan from Sheffield United but leading goalscorer Scott Hogan, who has missed the last six games, is still struggling with a knee injury.

Dale, two points clear at the top, have lost only one of their previous 12 league matches.

York’s League Two manager of the month Nigel Worthington is expected to name an unchanged side for the game at Rochdale.

Worthington, whose play-off chasing side have won eight and drawn three of their previous 11 matches, has no new injury or suspension problems for a tough test at leaders Rochdale.

Midfielder Josh Carson has been ruled out for nine months due to cruciate ligament damage and striker Wes Fletcher will miss the rest of the season with medial ligament damage.

Ryan Jarvis and recent signing Calvin Andrew are expected to start on the bench again, with Michael Coulson and Ryan Bowman resuming up front.
