Stuart McCall was thrilled after watching Motherwell battle back to defeat Hibernian 4-3 thanks to a Michael Higdon hat-trick at Fir Park.

Isaiah Osbourne fired Hibs into a half-time lead, before Higdon (penalty) and Jamie Murphy put the hosts ahead - only for the visitors to respond immediately through Matt Doherty.

Motherwell took the lead for the second time through a wonderful overhead kick from Higdon on 70 minutes and the Englishman then added his third from the penalty spot five minutes later.

Ivan Sproule blasted Hibs' third beyond Darren Randolph after the home side had failed to deal with George Francomb's corner but it was too little too late.

"We weren't despondent at half-time and we told the lads that we would get chances, that turned out to be the case," said McCall.

"I just thought the two goals we got apart from the two penalties were good goals and the build up to the two penalties was great too.

"I am delighted for Higgy (Michael Higdon), he gives everything he has got and is a vital part of the team here.

"Hibs deserve immense credit, they came here and gave us lots of problems, they played their part in a cracking game of football."

Three points for Motherwell moves them within three of second-placed Rangers.

McCall, however, insists his players are not looking beyond their next match when the Fir Park side travel to face runaway leaders Celtic on Saturday.

"It is important that we are now 12 points clear of Hearts and St Johnstone in third," added McCall.

"We have a big game against Celtic on Saturday now. It's not what you want to hear but we are only looking at the next game."

Hibs counterpart Pat Fenlon was disappointed after his side failed to take anything from the game despite scoring goals away from home.

Despite showing an eye for goal, the Hibees conceded four times in the second half at Fir Park, meaning they remain joint-bottom of the SPL.

"We are disappointed, we have came here and scored three goals and got nothing out of the game," said Fenlon.

"I thought we killed ourselves, we gave away sloppy goals and put in rash challenges at time when we should stay on our feet in the penalty area.

"You would think before the game that if we came here and scored three goals then we would win the game but instead we have left with nothing."
