Representatives from Scotland's three main football authorities are meeting to discuss reconstruction of the game.

The three main football authorities are to begin the latest in a series of meetings.

The Scottish Football Association are staging the meeting with both league bodies, who could merge under proposals to adapt the structure and shape of the professional game.

SFA chief executive Stewart Regan was at the meeting along with executives and some club representatives from the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League.

Seven SPL clubs were due to be represented - Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Hearts, St Johnstone, St Mirren and Kilmarnock - while Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie was there in his capacity as SFA vice-president.

No vote is planned on Tuesday with the meeting being seen as another stepping stone to change.

Both league bodies put forward significantly different proposals for the number of teams in each division but both sets of clubs unanimously agreed on a three-tier structure.

There were several areas of agreement including the introduction of play-offs between the top and second tiers and working towards a pyramid structure.

And SFL chief executive David Longmuir admitted at the weekend that some of his clubs were warming to the SPL plans for a 12-12-18 structure which would see the top two divisions split into three midway through the season.

SPL clubs have written off a 16-team top division as financially unviable and their bid to redistribute some of their wealth appears to be winning round some SFL clubs.
