Scunthorpe youth development officer Tony Daws claims the club's second-year scholars are the best the club has had in recent years.

Only one of last year's second-year apprentices was offered a full-time contract with the club, but having already seen Luke Hornsey on the substitutes' bench for the final two games of last season, Daws believes that this year's could outshine their predecessors.

"We are fortunate this year that we have a very good crop of second years," Daws told the club's official website.

"We have already had Luke Hornsey on the bench at the end of last season. But we have other good lads as well.

"In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is possibly our best group of second years for a number of years."
