Manager Danny Wilson says his playing budget won't undermine Sheffield United's chances of promotion in League One next season.

Wilson is still unsure how much money will be made available for team strengthening in time for the 2012/13 campaign because of uncertainty surrounding the futures of several players.

When asked if he had been given a specific playing budget, Wilson said: "No. We're still waiting. It's really dependent on who's going to be here and who's not going to be here.

"Until we can clear that situation up we won't know where we are. It's very frustrating, I have to say. It's frustrating for everybody, but it doesn't mean to say by the time the first ball is kicked in anger, which is Burton, we're not going to have a team that is challenging for the holy grail come the end of the season.

"It's a big challenge, but if you look up and down the country you'll see we're not the only football club who are making cutbacks. This is not unusual at this moment in time, the whole industry worldwide is cutting back.

"We're not immune to that. It's unfortunate that at this moment in time we don't know exactly what we've got and be clear-cut, but I can guarantee by the time we kick-off we'll be up and running and ready to challenge again to get in the top two places."
