Graham Turner admitted he was shocked to see Marvin Morgan receive a straight red card in Shrewsbury's 2-1 victory over Southend.
The striker was given his marching orders after just 28 minutes at the Greenhous Meadow following a challenge on Jean-Paul Kalala.
"I couldn't see a bad tackle in it," said manager Turner, who watched his side go on to topple the league leaders despite having to play an hour with 10 men.
"I think he reached for the ball. From up in the stand I was a little bit shocked when I saw a red card come out because from the distance I was at it didn't took too bad.
"The referee talked about it being a reckless challenge but I didn't see that at all."
