Paul Parry is staying positive after losing 2-1 to Birmingham on his first outing in a Shrewsbury shirt.
Parry, who joined the Shrews in the summer from Preston, told the club's official website: "You always want to win, whether it be a friendly or a league match.
"But the game was a good workout and we showed certain positive signs and I'm sure it'll only get better.
"I thought at times that we showed them a little bit too much respect and gave them a bit too much time on the ball, but it's only our second pre-season game and we're still working on things.
"I'm sure come the start of the season we'll be firing on all cylinders."
