Akpa Akpro seals Shrewsbury win

Akpa Akpro took advantage of some poor defending from the home side to curl the ball past Joe Day with 13 minutes remaining.

It moved Shrewsbury top of League Two and condemned Justin Edinburgh’s promotion-chasing side to their third straight defeat.

The home side had the best chances of the first half and Aaron O’Connor had a great opportunity to put County in front when Connor Goldson misjudged a long ball but his shot was saved by Jayson Leutwiler.

O’Connor did have the ball in the net after 33 minutes only to see his header ruled out for offside.

Both sides struggled to create any clear-cut chances in the second half until the 77th minute when Akpa Akpro nicked the ball off Darren Jones and fired home just two minutes after replacing Mikael Mandron.

The only down side for Shrewsbury was having substitute Keith Southern sent off five minutes into injury time for a two-footed lunge on Kevin Feely.
