League Two promotion chasers Southend have completed the signing of striker Anto Flood on a free transfer.

The Shrimpers have moved to secure the Irish forward's services until the end of the season after he impressed in a behind-closed-doors trial match earlier in January.

The Dublin-born 27-year-old numbers St. Patrick's Athletic, Dundalk, Shelbourne, Galway and Bohemians among his former clubs.

Flood has received international clearance from the Irish FA enabling him to make the trip to Northampton for Saturday's League Two clash at Sixfields.
