Chief executive Tara Brady has quit his position at League Two club Southend, who have already arranged for the post to be filled.
Brady arrived in December 2010 and has helped turn around United's fortunes both on and off the pitch.
Brady was reported to have lost some of his interest in football and has now taken on another job outside of the sport.
Chairman Ron Martin, however, has wasted little time identifying a replacement.
"I had already had discussions with somebody, actually before Tara started, and he couldn't take the mantle at that time, but he's now prepared to," Martin told BBC Essex.
"We'll be making an announcement on that in a day or two."
