Gary Smith felt John Mousinho's late winner was just reward for Stevenage as they clinched a 1-0 victory against play-off rivals Carlisle.

Mousinho, who has only recently returned from a five-month injury lay-off, had only been on the field as a substitute for three minutes before crashing in a terrific effort off the underside of the crossbar.

The result puts Boro alongside Carlisle - a single point behind sixth-placed Notts County with three games left of the season.

"I thought John's goal was just desserts for our performance - all of the elements that you're looking for to get yourself back into, not only the race for the top six, but hopefully to do well in the play-offs, were there," said Smith. "That's what we're charging on for now, so you're looking at an unbelievable save by Chris Day and our defenders were under immense pressure in the last five minutes.

"It was very exciting - this is what everyone gets involved for: big games towards the end of the season. Carlisle are a good side and I thought the fans got behind us well and the occasion where two good teams come together is exactly what everybody's after.

"The games just keep getting bigger now. We were disappointed to be at 0-0 at half-time because when you have a bit of pressure and you're creating good opportunities, you want to take advantage of that."
