Stevenage boss Gary Smith believes end-of-season wins over their play-off rivals was the key to Boro claiming a top-six finish.
The Hertfordshire club are on course for a third successive promotion after ending the campaign in sixth spot and setting up a play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.
Back-to-back home wins over Carlisle and Brentford in the space of five days in April strengthened Boro's promotion push, something that Smith feels is key to their success.
He told the club's official website: "We've tried to stick to what has been successful for us in the last two or three weeks especially; we've got 13 points from a possible 25 in the run-in and three of those sides were in the top six when we played them so that's good form in this closing part of the season."
Stevenage host the Blades in the first leg of the League One semi-final on Friday evening with the return game at Bramall Lane on May 14.
