The rumour is gathering pace of him joining United. Another exciting signing by Jose if we pull it off.
July 5, 2016 at 10:20 am #1093836Would be a good replacement for Fellaini 🙂
I have a feeling though, if we signed him that would be the end of the Pogba ‘chase’. That may be good news for TFM mind you.July 5, 2016 at 11:28 am #1094010He’s 29 FFS! Classic Mourinho. Thinking about now and not the future. He’ll be 32 when Mourinho gets sacked with no sell on value. Good stuff. Keep ’em coming Jose!
July 5, 2016 at 12:45 pm #1094298To have a future we need to improve the now we are crap and have no credibiloty now. Teams have been smellling blood with us and winning. We need to get the fear factor back and if it takes short term players to do that then so be it. It will provide a platform for the kids
July 5, 2016 at 1:08 pm #1094355Jose has stated that he’s got one more target. Hopefully its Pogba and not Matuidi. Great player but too old. Kudos to Jose if he gets Pogba.
July 5, 2016 at 1:15 pm #1094379I think Pogba is the number 1 target and Jose has a back up plan – he said we won’t wait until Aug 31st to make the final signing.
Matuidi was over here in the week to sort out a transfer – so we’ve either given up on Pogba already or he is off elsewhere.
July 5, 2016 at 1:20 pm #1094400we would get both of them.
July 5, 2016 at 1:25 pm #1094424Mourinho said he’s got one more target and it’s Pogba. I wouldnt take Matuidi for free
July 5, 2016 at 1:53 pm #1094514Pogba is the target, no question. Then he said he’d be able to breathe, in the knowledge that the 4 key areas identified had been covered. But he did also say that after that, players may leave and would need to be replaced. I think there’ll be more than 4.
July 5, 2016 at 2:01 pm #1094538theMartialArt, don’t worry, they aren’t selling him for free.
July 5, 2016 at 2:01 pm #1094550@manthistle, we may already have the future sorted. We have Timothy Fosu-Mensah. Granted he could be played in defence but he’s also a beast of a midfielder.
July 5, 2016 at 2:23 pm #1094628homerjay540 – not if he gets bored of waiting and fucks off to juventus next season 🙂
July 5, 2016 at 2:42 pm #1094658Fosu-Mensah is undoubtedly a major talent, the best I’ve seen at the club since, ironically, Pogba. Is he ready to go straight into midfield now? Probably not. And would he have been introduced into the first team if Ferguson was still manager? Absolutely not. Let’s just hope he gets his chances next season and continues to develop into a top player who’ll be a regular for years to come.
July 7, 2016 at 8:31 am #1097172I can’t believe that anyone would reject a player of this caliber. He may be a bit older, but can still deliver 3-5 seasons of top level football. Tell me, what did “young” midfielders like Cleverley and Anderson do for us?? RVP delivered us a title, Sheringham won player of the year, Yorke won us a treble all were older signings.
Matuidi is bloody brilliant. Power, pace, tenacity and genuine two way play. Look at it this way- he is a similar age profile to Fellaini. We could get rid of him, sign Matuidi and the age profile of our squad would not significantly change and we would get a massive jump in quality.
Remember, Real Madrid signed Zidane at 29, Chelsea signed Makelele at 29. Do either regret doing that? People say it will kill Fosu-Mensah. I disagree. It will allow Fosu to play for 3 years without pressure. And when he is 21-22 (the ideal age for a midfielder to become a regular- just like Becks and Scholes) he will have a space right there for him.
July 7, 2016 at 9:19 am #1097223Yorke was 26 when he signed for us. That’s a big difference to 29 IMO. RvP was £24m for one good season. I never wanted RvP because it was a short term fix. Just like Matuidi would be. Plus Matuidi relies on his pace and energy which diminishes significantly with age. He has 2-3 years max left at the top level because of the type of player he is. A complete waste of money if we buy him.
July 7, 2016 at 10:33 am #1097373Best get Jose on the phone then Manthistle aka Carrick and tell him not to buy Matuidi because his pace and energy would diminish in 3 years. Tell him it’ll be waste of money while you’re at it.
July 7, 2016 at 11:27 am #1097526MMI – I have already spoken to Jose and he’s said that he doesn’t care that Matuidi will be shot after 3 years as he doesn’t planning on still being at Utd past 2019.
July 7, 2016 at 12:37 pm #1097814Manthistle all people aren’t equal. Matuidi is extremely fit and professional. Yorke was a total party boy and in case it has escaped your attention, he was out on his feet within two seasons.
You have to remember we are at a crossroads. LVG was very slow progress and Moyes destroyed the club in a manner which i didn’t even think was possible within 9 months. We need a team to strike fear into opponents, or we risk losing it forever (or at least a very long period of time). It is no good going for long term players if the club continues its descent into farce and all the long term players hand in transfer requests (a la Arsenal in the previous 15 years).
Make no mistake, Jose has saved our bacon before he has even managed a match. Without him so many of our squad would be considering their futures. De Gea especially. With him at the helm we can look towards buying instead of selling. We need leaders, we need characters, we need athletes after the absolute crap the last two managers served up. And we need these things fast. I will say one thing, if Jose had been our manager after Fergie and spent 200 million, we would be talking about how disappointed we are to not win the Champions League, rather than how we didn’t finish fourth and how we can get back in.
July 7, 2016 at 1:01 pm #1097880Well said busby. Great post.
July 7, 2016 at 1:10 pm #1097898Keeping De Gea is probably our most important signing this summer.
