Torquay v Newport preview

Torquay look set to be without Courtney Cameron for the visit of Newport.

The former Aston Villa man was forced off at half-time of their vital 2-1 victory over Bury on Tuesday night with a knock and he will be assessed by the club’s medical staff with Danny Stevens standing by to step in.

Ashley Yeoman stepped off the bench to net a late winner at Plainmoor in midweek and he will hope to be in contention for a starting place along with fellow substitute Jayden Stockley.

But the Gulls remain without midfielder Joss Labadie who serves the second match of his 10-game ban for biting a player last month.

Newport have received a huge injury boost ahead of the trip to Torquay.

Defender Byron Anthony limped off in the first half of Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Dagenham with what the Exiles feared was his second broken leg of the season but X-rays gave the former Bristol Rovers man the all-clear.

Anthony tweeted how he suffered no damage and the problem will “settle down in days” which suggests he is unlikely to line up against the Gulls but could return when they tackle Bury on Tuesday.

The Exiles, whose number one goalkeeper Lenny Pidgeley is a week or two away from a return, will also be without captain David Pipe who picked up a second yellow card late on against the Daggers and will now serve a one-match ban.
