Middlesbrough have granted permission for teenage defender Ben Gibson to be sent on a one-month loan deal to League One side Tranmere Rovers.
The 19-year-old defender made an immediate impact as he helped Rovers secure a 2-1 victory at Chesterfield in Tuesday night's Capital One Cup clash.
Gibson came through the youth system at Middlesbrough and has made only one first team appearance to date.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with York City and was part of the team that enjoyed two Wembley triumphs in eight days, winning the FA Trophy and promotion to the Football League.
The first half of the 2011-12 campaign saw Gibson on loan at Plymouth, where he made 16 appearances.
