Moore: Full of praise for Rovers

Moore: Full of praise for Rovers

Manager Ronnie Moore hailed Tranmere's "fantastic" football after they won 1-0 at Oldham on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers went five points clear at the top of League One thanks to a second-half goal from Adam McGurk, giving Moore special cause to celebrate against one of his former clubs. Oldham fans have often criticised Moore for a supposed long-ball preference - and the man who lost his Boundary Park job six years ago revelled in his success.

"We are in a great position and I'm going to make sure I enjoy this result," said Moore. "Some of our football was fantastic, which maybe isn't what I'm best known for in a few places. The players knew how important this was to me personally because some people just won't let it go, so it's nice to come back here and win.

"Maybe I'm being facetious, but after we went in front Oldham were hoofing big, long balls into our box. We had to deal with it, which we did, and our keeper didn't have many saves to make. We should have been out of sight at half-time after making so many chances, but we kept going and scored a fantastic goal.

"Oldham threw the kitchen sink at us towards the end but the lads are a tough and determined bunch who will dig deep. We play some very good football as well and there was one spell when Oldham could hardly get a touch.

"We haven't achieved anything yet this season, but it's fantastic to be five points clear."
